I recently picked up a 2002 998S Bayliss with low double digit miles essentially in stock condition. The last bike I purchased was a 1098 S Tricolore and then before that 1199 S Tricolore, so in essence I am traveling back in time through Ducati lineage. For what it is worth I like the 999 and plan to get one of them, I got the 998S Bayliss as it come available and I did not want to pass it up. It was also a surprise to my women (literally when it was being delivered).

I was going to put it in my office and have it registered on a truck and keep it stock. My other ducatis are modified (see my pics). However, before I knew it I had the 998RS rear sets, all the carbon fiber and a brand new 50mm Termi on order. I plan to get this ceramic coated like all my other exhausts.

My women suggested that I should ride it a bit, just to see what it is like.

I run the gauntlet today at the California DMV to get the bike registered. As I bought it out of state I knew I was in serious hassle and I went through this when I bought an out of state 1098S. After a mammoth wait at my local DMV, the inspector clocked that the bike was CANADIAN. Which is NOT good for CA, USA, although I was pleased as I believe the non-USA version of the 998S Bayliss is better.

Long and short of it due a intra-DMV misunderstanding I managed to get the bike registered.

Now, my 1199 S and 1098 S are pretty tricked out so I have some good comparisons for the bayliss ...

I was completely blown away how amazing the 998S is to ride, man it fits better than the 1199 and 1098 and the monopisto version hugs the behind well and allows you to get tucked in. What an awesome machine, no way I going to let this baby gather dust. Absolutely blown away how great it is .. the brakes are not as good as my 1098S (however, I have Brembo HPKs, Pads, GP4RX Calipers) nor the 1199, but handling, oh man way better than the 1098 and 1199.

I can't wait to get the Termi's on and ECU dropped in there. EPIC bike.

Мне тоже классика кажется более эргономичной с гоночной точки зрения, чем весь это "хайтек" хлам. На классике я себя ощущаю буквально внутри мотоцикла. На гале, 1198(у него чуть лучше) как на табуретке сидишь. Рост 172, вес 60-62. Да и со стороны райдеры (причем абсолютно всех комплекций) смотрятся гораздо отстойнее на 1098-1199 нежели чем на 916-998.

ваще-то 1098 существенно легче и мотор лучше однозначно. но ощущения от езды на Тамбурини сбк очень яркие, да. а вот сидится на нём как раз как на заборе. это любому настоящему дукати свойственно.

хрюкстер пришел этим летом,японец пытался строить что-то свое, спасибо за малосси-ништяки, но я буду строить свое, сток не нра, проект в процессе...
пробег всего 3000км, похоже хозян забыл о нем надолго

Полная трековая подготовка, сильно не разглядывал, но есть лап таймер, в роде счетчик кругов, примочки какие то еще, даже аккум литиевый!!
Сцепление хорошее, задний аморт переделан!
Надо будет потом Алексея попытать, когда мотик обслужат полностью!!
